Any idea what would cause my tool to keep going out of level during the day? Seems like it happens a few times a day.

It usually depends on how the tool is positioned. For instance, when I'm using a tripod on frozen ground in the morning, I notice by mid morning that it starts to go out of level more constantly because the ground is thawing. Anything that would cause the total station to vibrate (jobsite conditions, wind, etc) would cause it to go out of level as well. If you feel it is happening too often, attempting a field calibration might do the trick. Here is how to do it for the PLT , and here is how to do it for the POS Generally speaking, getting the tool as stable as possible is the best method to prevent what you are experiencing. Column clamps usually help the most for stability.
