Backsight check message? Empty Backsight check message?

Wed Apr 08, 2020 12:54 pm
Everytime my PLT does a self calibration on the job, I get a message on the tablet asking if I want to check my backsight. I usually ignore this, but should I?

Backsight check message? Empty Re: Backsight check message?

Well, what it is inviting you to do is to have the tool turn right back to where it remembers your control points being when you measured it during stationing. The tool will tell you that the stationing is still ok if, after you do a back sight check, the point you measure is still within the tolerance you have set in your settings for your stationing.

So, IF you ignore it, that's ok, but I would encourage you to constantly re-layout a point here and there as you work to make sure your station hasn't moved, even slightly, so that the points you lay out stay consistent with each other. It isn't hard to just restation the tool, as well. Some people I know restation once every 45 minutes or so just to be safe.
